Zazenkai at Rinzai Zen Mission

Just a reminder about this Saturday’s (June 9) Zazenkai at Rinzai Zen Mission. We will end at 3 pm to meet and discuss many things! If you are planning to attend Zazenaki, please let me know so we have enough cushions out if you are coming after we begin. If any of you have any interest in the Maui Zendo “programs” or any ideas on how to improve what MZ does, please try to at least make the meeting! It’ll be good to see you.

June Zazenkai

We will have June Zazenkai with Michael Kieran on Saturday, June 9 starting at 9 am. All are welcome. The fee is $20 in addition to any dana you would like to give Michael. It is always nice to know who intends to come so please send us an email message info@maui-zendo.org if you will be attending.

Val’s back!

Val has asked me to announce that he will resume the Thursday sitting schedule at Rinzai Zen Mission starting NEXT Thursday. It will begin at 5pm and end at 6 pm.

Sesshin from Friday April 27 until Wednesday May 2

Just a reminder that we will be in Sesshin from Friday, April 27 until Wednesday, May 2 so there will be no weekly sitting next Monday or Wednesday. Please know you are welcome to attend Dharma Assembly which begins at 2 pm each day (Sat. through Tuesday). If you are going to attend this, please wait at the bottom of the temple stairs until you are escorted in to sit.

Cancel Sitting

We have to cancel sitting this Wednesday, April 11 but will resume the regular schedule next week. Also, Sunday is a day of samu at Pa’ia Rinzai Mission. It begins at 8 am and ends around 10 am.

Thursday sitting

Thursday sitting will not be happening until further notice (beginning 3/29). We will resume as soon as we can and will send a notice when that happens.

Sesshin head count

Not thinking clearly is not a good thing… I put April 15 as a deadline for Sesshin sign up but later realized we should get a headcount well before then! If you are planning to attend, please email Joni at: jonicj@gmail.com. We would like to have a number to work with as soon as possible–say by April 1. You can submit payment and details a bit later than that or work with Joni on it.

April 2012 Maui Zendo Sesshin

Dear Sangha Friends.

The Maui Zendo 2012 Sesshin with Michael Kieran will be held from Friday, April 27, 2012 to Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the Paia Rinzai Zen Mission on Baldwin Beach.
Please bring a brown bag supper for Friday, April 27.
Check in will be held between 4:00 pm and 4:30 pm. We will eat together at 5:00 pm. A work meeting will follow at 5:45 p.m. Orientation and Sesshin cautions will then follow at 7:00 p.m. Attendance at the orientation meeting is mandatory for all participants, even for part timers in order to be familiar with all the workings of the Sesshin.
The Sesshin closing ceremony will end at about noon on Wednesday. We will then have tea, eat lunch and clean and pack up. We will leave the property no later than 3 P.M. Please make your off-island reservation departures no earlier than 5:00 p.m.
The cost of the Sesshin for full time participants is $275. If you plan to attend part time, the fee is $16 per block.
Accommodations
You need to supply your own bedding to sleep in the temple or on the temple grounds. If you do not want to sleep in the temple or in a shaded outdoor area under the temple you can opt to camp in your tent near the temple. You must also bring your own towel and items for personal hygiene.
We look forward to your participation and ask that you sign up no later than April 15 to help the planners with their jobs as there will be much to do. We ask for your Kokua.

March 10 Zazenkai will be at Alan’s. We will sit from 9 am to 4 pm but need some folks there early to help set up. As usual, the fee is $20 in addition to any dana you wish to offer for Michael.
